THIS IS A REPLACEMENT FOR ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF THE FONT ENTITLED "POSITIONS 24". THIS IS VERSION 1.2d2 (3/4/88). PLEASE DISCARD OTHERS.
OBJECTIVE- Speed up the process of making chess diagrams; produce high quality printed chess positions approximately 2 inches square (2x2).
Page 1
CONSIDERATIONS- Ideally, the chesspieces should be easy to distinguish from one other; with respect to printing, a chessfont should be capable of producing manuscript-sized (small) diagrams consistent with typeset sizes commonly used in chess books; positions should be easy to make and view on-screen; the printout should be "kind" to printer ribbons; sometimes text formats can be more space economical than PICT formats and most graphic applications support text anyway; finally, a user shouldn't need to worry about hardware dependencies (i.e., Mac software should work on ANY Mac).
THIS IS VERSION 1.2d2 (3/4/88). IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A REPLACEMENT FOR EARLIER VERSIONS OF THIS FONT. PLEASE DISCARD PREVIOUS VERSIONS.
Please note, however, that this font is NOT presently scaled for optimum screen viewing, professional typesetting, on-screen reduction, nor printing on a Laserwriter; these are some possibilities for future development [d].
You should use Positions 24, therefore, as you would use any other public domain software- "torture-test" it and have fun experimenting, but be sure to use backup copies of system files & applications to avoid damage etc.…

THANK-YOU.
IF YOU WERE WONDERING-
"Positions 24" resulted from a need to:
a) eliminate/reduce the cutting & pasting of individual pieces in diagrams.
b) remove the confusion sometimes associated with repeatedly transferring
or switching back & forth between many applications and DAs.
c) simplify macro commands for producing any possible chess position.
d) shrink the memory space required for making chess diagrams.
e) make diagrams that a paste-up artist could easily read.
f) save time!

Yours truly has played roughly 20,000 chess games against several Class A computers & programs over the past 4 years with a plus score of about +80%. Many of these games contain idea variations which you might find useful or entertaining. If you're interested, send me a blank 400Kss disk and $5.00 to receive 100 games and some other useful chess sundries. Specify the applications/formats you want to use & I'll try to accomodate.
